Resumen
To determine the level of acceptance of a digital currency issued and backed by the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), as well as to identify the most frequently used payment methods and assess the level of knowledge about four (4) of the world's leading cryptocurrencies, a measurement instrument was applied to the economically active population of the Central District. The results obtained indicate, among other findings, that there are currently five (5) preferred payment methods among the surveyed population. Additionally, these results show a high percentage of lack of knowledge regarding both the four (4) cryptocurrencies included and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs); however, the latter seem to have a considerably higher level of acceptance.
Moreover, to complement this research work, interviews were conducted with experts working at the BCH who are knowledgeable in the field of CBDCs from their areas of specialization, including technology, operations, legal, and monetary aspects.
