Abstract

This study analyzes crowdfunding as a financial sustainability strategy for the non-governmental organization PILARH, which is located in the city of Santa Rosa de Copán in western Honduras. This study was prompted by concerns over funding cuts by some donors and the withdrawal of USAID and other international donors. The research employs a qualitative, descriptive approach, using the PILARH association as a case study and drawing on the successful experience of Operación Sonrisa. Data collection was conducted through interviews with four members of the PILARH association and one representative from Operación Sonrisa. The results show that the PILARH association has the basic conditions necessary to implement crowdfunding campaigns; however, it needs to strengthen some of its staff’s skills in digital tools, communication, and crowdfunding campaign management. It was concluded that crowdfunding is a viable strategy for diversifying its revenue through platforms such as YoMeUno and GlobalGiving.
